“A movie that every Deadhead in the kozmic universe will want to see… (all) the sprawl and generosity of a good Dead show.” Variety
At last the Grateful Dead have the documentary they deserve. Directed by Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story), and with Martin Scorsese as executive producer, this is a lovingly meticulous account of the life and times of the countercultural avatars, masters of psychedelic jamming and kings of the road. The freewheeling film tells the story of bandleader Jerry Garcia’s childhood and the band’s formation on the San Francisco scene in the ’60s, their endless tours in the ’70s and ’80s, Garcia’s tragic death in 1995, and more. Interviews with surviving band members, a wealth of archival footage and a spectacular sound track highlight a colourful and music-saturated epic that will enthrall Deadheads, and for others will be a gateway drug for what will surely become a love for one of the most influential bands in music history.
