QUEERCORE
How To Punk A Revolution

In the mid-1980s and ‘90s, a group of queer outsiders dreamt up a punk revolution still making waves to this day. Called Queercore, it turned the punk scene and LGBTQI community on their heads by putting butch-dykes and gay skinheads centre stage.

Starting out as little more than fiction, the idea snowballed to become an international movement of films, bands and zines that gave voice to gender non-conformity, feminism and proudly explicit depictions of queer sex. Bruce LaBruce, John Waters, Genesis P. Orridge, Bikini Kill‘s grrl-power femicat Kathleen Hanna, Pansy Division, Beth Ditto, Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon and more appear in this enlightening and often funny doco, explaining how this DIY movement ultimately expanded into popular culture, influencing everyone from the Gossip to Nirvana, Peaches to Green Day. Even if you’ve never heard of Queercore, this sexy trip through LGBTIQ counterculture will have you riveted from whoa to go. An empowering documentary reminding us that we can all create our own reality, find our tribe, and need never feel alone. ** One lucky ticket holder will win a Groovescooter Queerpunk inspired T-shirt (see below) at the screening.
