Full of scintillating performances, this fascinating new documentary about British tenor saxophonist and jazz club owner, Ronnie Scott and his world-famous London jazz club, recently began its cinema run after being held-up by the pandemic. Groovescooter are thrilled to finally be presenting it in Sydney for its Australian Premiere. RONNIE’S is a celebration of the legacy of Ronnie Scott and also a look at the talented, yet unassuming man himself. Featuring previously unseen and unheard performances as well as interviews with some of the most iconic figures in music, the film explores the club’s 60 year history and shines a light on the uncompromising men and women who built it and who took to its stage. Rather than the usual parade of talking heads, filmmaker Oliver Murray uses the music figures interviewed (folks like Gilles Peterson, Quincy Jones and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell) to broaden the story as voice-overs only, thereby allowing the club’s incredible on-stage action and compelling archive footage to fully shine.

From the intense, sweat-dripping opening performance by Oscar Peterson seated at the piano, through to the remarkable mastery on show by artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Nina Simone, Buddy Rich and even Jimi Hendrix, this sometimes poignant document of music passion will have you riveted throughout.
